Museumshaven Bad Oeynhausen blev åbnet i 1969 som hjemstavnsmuseum for den østvestfalske kurby. Forbillederne for museet var Friluftsmuseet Bad Zwischenahn, Bielefelds bondehusmuseum og den samtidig under opbygning værende Museumshof Rahden. Oprindeligt var der kun tænkt på en enkelt bygning, hovedbygningen som blev flyttet dertil fra 1965. Udvidelsen til en gårdanlæg blev i 1974 udløst af donationen af et hus for en arbejder. Indtil 1993 blev der opført fem bygninger på den 2.800 m² store grund. Derudover kom der en gårdvandmølle ved den nærliggende Osterbach i Siekertal med to mølledamme.
