Della precedente fortezza situata al margine settentrionale di Blessem è rimasta solo la cortina, che oggi è conosciuta come Castello di Blessem. Il tracciato dei fossati drenati indica l'originaria struttura a due parti, la cui casa della fortezza si trovava su un'isola a nord-est della cortina, nell'attuale area del giardino. A seguito della catastrofe delle inondazioni del 2021, che ha allagato vaste aree della regione a causa di forti piogge, alcune parti della struttura sono state erose e sono scivolate. Pertanto, il castello ora si trova su un dirupo verso la cava di ghiaia. Un ampliamento del castello deve essere demolito, ma il resto può essere mantenuto.
