Haardorf si trova a sud-ovest della città di Osterfeld e a est di Goldschau in un'area intensamente utilizzata per l'agricoltura lungo la strada statale 190.
Un'indagine statistica commissionata da Giovanni Augusto di Sassonia-Weissenfels nel 1663 indicò per Haardorf un numero di abitanti pari a 56 persone,1 distribuite su 12 fattorie e un terreno di giardino costruito. Fino al XVIII secolo il numero dei terreni aumentò a 20. Nel 1852 la popolazione ammontava a 148 persone e doveva salire a 440 entro il 1905, prima che fino al 1971 si registrasse un decremento a 351 persone.
