Gößnitz [Pronuncia: gœsnɪt͡s] è la città con il minor numero di abitanti e la seconda più piccola per superficie nel distretto di Altenburger Land nella Turingia. La città è nota principalmente per il nodo ferroviario della connessione ferroviaria Lipsia–Hof e per la connessione della Germania centrale, così come per il Gößnitz Open-Air che si tiene annualmente dal 1993. La città ha vissuto il suo massimo splendore durante il periodo dell'industrializzazione, così la rappresentativa fabbrica di malto di Viktor Grimm, succeduta nel 1889, ancora oggi caratterizza il paesaggio urbano.
Gößnitz è la città più orientale della Turingia e la più meridionale dell'Altenburger Land. La città è attraversata dal Meerchen, che sfocia a sud nel Pleiße; il luogo si trova nella zona di transizione tra la pianura del Erzgebirge e la baia di pianura di Lipsia.
