Le fortificazioni sulla collina di Klüt, chiamate anche Fort George o Forte di Klüt, si trovavano sulla elevazione a ovest di Hameln. Le strutture, costruite alla fine del XVIII secolo, consistevano in quattro forti. Servivano alla protezione militare della fortezza di Hameln, situata sulla sponda opposta del fiume Weser. Hameln divenne così la fortezza più potente del elettorato di Hannover e alla fine del XVIII secolo era considerata il "Gibilterra del Nord". Seguendo un decreto di Napoleone, nel 1808 le opere di difesa sulla collina di Klüt e quelle della città di Hameln furono demolite.
