Kleinkmehlen è parte del comune di Großkmehlen nel distretto di Oberspreewald-Lausitz in Brandeburgo. Appartiene all'ufficio di Ortrand con sede a Ortrand.
Kleinkmehlen è uno dei pochi luoghi nel sud del distretto di Oberspreewald-Lausitz che non si trova nella Lusazia, ma nel Schraden. A ovest del paese si trova Großkmehlen, a nord e a est si trovano altri luoghi dell'ufficio di Ortrand, Lindenau a nord e direttamente a est la città di Ortrand con la frazione di Burkersdorf. A sud si trovano i villaggi di Kraußnitz e Linz, che si trovano già nel comune sassone di Schönfeld, e Blochwitz nel comune di Lampertswalde. A sud del paese si trova il gruppo collinare delle Kmehlener Berge, con la montagna più alta del Brandeburgo, il Kutschenberg.
