Dopo il fallimento nel 2003, l'edificio costruito nel XIX secolo è stato demolito dopo diversi incendi nell'estate del 2017. Grazie all'investitore Dieter Köhler, il Harzburger Hof riaprirà come Grand Hotel nel 2022.
Già nel 1831 Neustadt, così chiamata fino al 1892, era conosciuta come località balneare grazie alle sue sorgenti saline. Dopo l'interruzione dell'estrazione del sale nel 1851, il luogo si è concentrato completamente sullo sviluppo del turismo termale, che si è sviluppato rapidamente dopo la fondazione dell'Impero.
