After insolvency in 2003, the building, which was built in the 19th century, was demolished in the summer of 2017 after several fires. Investor Dieter Köhler is expected to reopen the Harzburger Hof as a Grand Hotel in 2022.
As early as 1831, Neustadt, as Bad Harzburg was called until 1892, also became known as a seaside resort due to its brine springs. After brine extraction ceased in 1851, the town concentrated entirely on the development of spa tourism, which developed rapidly after the founding of the German Empire.
