Après la faillite en 2003, le bâtiment construit au 19ème siècle a été démoli à la suite de plusieurs incendies à l'été 2017. L'investisseur Dieter Köhler prévoit la réouverture du Harzburger Hof en tant que Grand Hôtel en 2022.
Déjà en 1831, Neustadt, comme Bad Harzburg jusqu'en 1892, était également connu comme station thermale en raison de ses sources de saumure. Après l'arrêt de l'exploitation de la saumure en 1851, la ville s'est entièrement concentrée sur le développement du tourisme balnéaire, qui s'est développé de manière fulgurante après la création de l'Empire.
