Tras la insolvencia de 2003, el edificio que había sido construido en el siglo XIX fue demolido tras varios incendios en el verano de 2017. El inversor Dieter Köhler prevé la reapertura del Harzburger Hof como un Gran Hotel en 2022.
Ya en 1831, Neustadt, que se llamaba Bad Harzburg hasta 1892, era conocido como un balneario debido a sus manantiales de sal. Después de la interrupción de la extracción de sal en 1851, el lugar se centró por completo en el desarrollo del turismo termal, que se desarrolló de manera ferviente tras la fundación del imperio.
