Mulsum è il villaggio più antico del comune ed è stato menzionato per la prima volta in un documento nel periodo dal 1111 al 1116 come Mulesla. È documentato che già all'epoca esisteva una propria parrocchia.
Attraverso la piazza del villaggio passa l'Alte Marktweg, che già nel Medioevo collegava i mercati di Bremervörde e Horneburg.
