Berensch-Arensch si trova direttamente sulla riva del dique. Foreste, brughiere, campi e praterie salmastre caratterizzano il paesaggio. Numerose fattorie storiche definiscono l'immagine del luogo.
I comuni di Arensch, Berensch, Cuxhaven, Döse, Duhnen, Groden, Gudendorf, Holte, Isola Neuwerk, Oxstedt, Ritzebüttel, Sahlenburg, Spangen, Stickenbüttel, Süder- e Westerwisch appartenevano fino al 1864 all'ufficio di Ritzebüttel di Amburgo e successivamente alla signoria di Ritzebüttel. Nel 1926 i comuni di Arensch, Berensch, Duhnen, Groden, Gudendorf, Holte, Isola Neuwerk, Oxstedt, Sahlenburg, Spangen, Stickenbüttel, Süder- e Westerwisch entrarono nella signoria di Amburgo. Con la legge della Grande Amburgo del 1° aprile 1937, i comuni di Arensch, Berensch, Gudendorf, Oxstedt, Sahlenburg, Holte e Spangen passarono al distretto di Land Hadeln, circondario di Stade della provincia prussiana di Hannover.
