La vecchia sinagoga di Neuss si trovava a Neuss presso la Sparkasse Neuss dall'altra parte della Promenadenstraße.
Già nel XII secolo c'era a Neuss una piccola comunità ebraica e una sinagoga. Gli ebrei vivevano in "Judensteg" vicino all'ormai noto Hessentor e poi in "Glockhammer", dove si trovava anche la sinagoga. Gli ebrei furono espulsi dalla città nel 1463. Dall'epoca dell'occupazione di Neuss da parte di Napoleone e della conseguente libertà religiosa, si formò nuovamente una comunità ebraica, che inizialmente allestì il proprio luogo di culto in una casa privata in Neustraße.
