Il quartiere di Rußdorf si trova a est del comune di Utscheid in una valle. Gran parte del paese è caratterizzato dalla sua posizione su un pendio. Si tratta di un villaggio stradale. Parallelamente al paese scorre il Udersbach in direzione di Berghausen.
Attorno al 1820, al di fuori del principale paese di Utscheid esistevano solo la fattoria Baustert-Waldburg e un edificio al posto del futuro vetroificio. Nel corso del XIX secolo si sono aggiunti alcuni insediamenti al di fuori di Utscheid. Il più grande agglomerato è diventato Rußdorf. Nel 1840 il quartiere contava già dodici case. Si sospetta che la nascita del quartiere sia legata al vecchio vetroificio.
