La Plaça Reial è attualmente un punto di incontro di un pubblico molto eterogeneo, perché è un luogo per sedersi e bere all'aria aperta nei tavolini sotto i portici che la caratterizzano. Di notte, è anche piuttosto comune trovare gente poiché nei dintorni ci sono bar, posti per ballare e ascoltare musica. È una delle piazze con più vita e ambiente sia diurno che notturno. Inoltre, nei fine settimana, nella piazza si possono vedere le riunioni di collezionisti di monete e francobolli. È anche un luogo molto utilizzato per celebrare eventi della capitale catalana. Durante le feste della Mercè è uno dei luoghi scelti per fare i balli tipici della Festa Maggiore e uno dei palchi del festival di musica parallelo BAM.
