L'antic municipio di Sort era un termine municipale della comarca del Pallars Sobirà che fu ampliato nel 1970 e nel 1976 con i vecchi municipi di Altron, Enviny e Llessui.
Il municipio di Sort fu creato nel 1812 a partire dalle disposizioni della Costituzione di Cadice e si è mantenuto sempre, prima con la superficie originale e, a partire dal 1970 e 1976, considerevolmente ampliato. Furono creati nel 1812 anche il comune della Bastida di Sort, incorporato a Sort nel 1847. Comprendeva anche i paesi di Bressui e di Pernui, quest'ultimo attualmente completamente disabitato, e un antico disabitato, che la tradizione associa all'origine di Sort: la villa di Vilamflor.
