Il parco semplice, originariamente allestito alla fine del 1700 , fu ampliato più volte dal 1854 in poi. Il motivo dell'espansione fu l'epidemia di colera che colpì Cadice in quel momento. Volevano dare lavoro a tutte le persone che avevano bisogno e dovevano trovare lavoro .
Uno dei punti principali del parco è La Gruta , un lago con cascata dove convivono diverse specie di uccelli.
Il parco racchiude alcune interessanti specie vegetali di diversa origine, che lo trasformano in un vero e proprio giardino botanico . Puoi contare oltre 100 diverse specie di alberi e arbusti, molte delle quali non si trovano in altri parchi o giardini della città.
Ospita una serie di piccoli monumenti , tra cui quelli in onore di José Celestino Mutis e José María Permán, nonché la famosa Fontana dei Bambini dell'Ombrello.
