Le mura di San Carlos de Cádiz sono una semi-fortezza costruita alla fine del XVIII secolo come parte di un ambizioso piano di rinnovamento delle strutture e degli edifici portuali della regione.
Già a metà del XVI secolo si pensava alla costruzione di uno dei tre bastioni a difesa del porto , il cosiddetto baluardo di Sant Felip, messo in servizio nel 1560.
Con l'aumento dei traffici marittimi, iniziò nel 1765 un rinnovamento della tenuta, che diede finalmente all'insieme l'aspetto attuale.
