Questi giardini furono inaugurati nel 1830 . Il nome è un omaggio a María Cristina de Borbón-Dos Sicilias, moglie di Ferdinando VII.
A causa dell'Esposizione del 1929 e della successiva costruzione dell'Hotel Cristina e dell'Hotel Alfonso
I giardini si uniscono in un disegno classicista, insieme alla vegetazione variegata, allo stagno di chiara appartenenza regionalista, al bel pergolato, al busto di Emilio Castelar, alla passeggiata dedicata nel 1981 a Vicente Aleixandre, premio Nobel per la letteratura, e al busto del poeta sivigliano Adriano del Valle, accanto ad un piccolo chiosco dove fino a pochi anni fa si trovava una stazione meteorologica completa che veniva spesso consultata dai sivigliani.
