Il Colle della Maddalena è un valico alpino alto 1996 m s.l.m., che si si trova nelle Alpi Occidentali, tra Italia e Francia, separando le Alpi Marittime dalle Alpi Cozie, unendo la valle Stura di Demonte con la val d'Ubaye e segnando il confine tra i due stati .
Il colle aveva una posizione strategica dovuta al fatto che la sua altezza è minore rispetto ad altri colli che uniscono Italia e Francia. Poteva diventare così una via per una possibile invasione di truppe straniere.
