Le centrali nucleari vengono spesso costruite lontano dalla vista, ai confini nazionali. Dove la densità di popolazione non è così elevata. Questo è vantaggioso, soprattutto se succede qualcosa di grave con quelle centrali nucleari, il danno è allora per metà a carico dei vicini. La posizione della centrale nucleare di Chooz nelle Ardenne francesi è davvero eclatante. Si trova vicino a Givet, all'estremità della protrusione francese che penetra profondamente nel territorio belga. In caso di un disastro nucleare a Chooz, sono soprattutto i belgi residenti nelle vicinanze a pagarne le conseguenze.
