San Vincenzo a Laon fu fondata come chiesa cimiteriale intorno al 580, menzionata per la prima volta come abbazia nel X secolo e sciolta durante la rivoluzione. L'ultimo edificio rimasto intatto dell'abbazia andò distrutto da un incendio nel giugno 2008.
Nel 513, il vescovo Remigio di Reims designò un promontorio a sud-ovest del tavolato di Laon come cimitero per la città. Allo stesso tempo, stabilì che la chiesa di San Cristoforo costruita qui sarebbe diventata la seconda sede della diocesi di Laon – e quindi anche il luogo di sepoltura dei vescovi. Intorno al 590, la regina Brunichilde fece costruire una basilica, alla quale si insediarono poco dopo dei monaci soggetti alla rigida regola colombiana, sebbene non si parlasse ancora di abbazia.
