Con i suoi 1531 m, il Grand Colombier è la montagna più alta del Bugey, una regione nel dipartimento di Ain che si estende tra Oyonnax, appena a nord di Nantua, e Belley, a ovest di Aix-les-Bains. A causa della confusione di piccole strade di accesso, il Colombier non è facilmente scalabile da ovest. Per i motociclisti, però, questo è un vantaggio. Ci vuole un buon po' di scalata e curve. La vista dalla cima ne vale davvero la pena: comprende il Giura, la valle del Rodano, il Massiccio Centrale e le Alpi con il Monte Bianco, e in una giornata limpida i laghi di Léman, Bourget e Annecy.
