Med sine 1531 m er Grand Colombier det højeste bjerg i Bugey, en region i departementet Ain, der strækker sig fra Oyonnax, lige nord for Nantua, til Belley, vest for Aix-les-Bains. På grund af labyrinten af små adgangsveje er Colombier ikke let at bestige fra vest. For motorcyklister er det dog en fordel. Der er en del klatring og sving involveret. Udsigten fra toppen er virkelig det værd: den omfatter Jura, Rhône-dalen, Massif Central og Alperne med Mont-Blanc, og på klare dage søerne Léman, Bourget og Annecy.
