With its 1531 m, the Grand Colombier is the highest mountain in the Bugey, a region in the department of Ain that stretches from Oyonnax, just north of Nantua, to Belley, west of Aix-les-Bains. Due to the maze of small access roads, the Colombier is not easily climbed from the west. However, this is quite an advantage for motorcyclists. A lot of climbing and winding roads are involved. The view from the top is truly worth it: it includes the Jura, the Rhône valley, the Massif Central, and the Alps with Mont Blanc, and on clear days the lakes of Léman, Bourget, and Annecy.
