Description

Costruito nel 1928, il Monumento ai Caduti e ai Bambini di Verdun si basa sulla mezza luna della Chaussée, la cui costruzione fu ordinata dal Maresciallo de Vauban nel XVII secolo. Si trova al posto della macelleria militare distrutta nel 1916. Questo monumento ai caduti rappresenta i cinque corpi dell'esercito francese impegnati nella battaglia del 1916.
Da sinistra a destra si possono vedere un cavalleggero, un ingegnere, un fante, noto anche come "Poilu", un artigliere e un soldato dell'esercito territoriale. Questi cinque soldati formano un muro che simboleggia il motto di Verdun: "Noi non passiamo". Ai piedi del monumento sono incisi i nomi dei soldati morti nella Prima e nella Seconda Guerra Mondiale.
