Sarebbe facile credere che questo nome sia legato all'attività del luogo e al numero di campioni che il comune di La Bresse conta, ma in realtà l'origine toponomastica di questo luogo deriva da "Champiès" che in patois locale significa "campo pianeggiante": circondato da montagne, il luogo dove è stato costruito lo stadio è uno dei rari spazi pianeggianti del comune.
