Costruita su palafitte alla fine del XIX secolo, la mensa degli ufficiali è uno degli edifici necessari alla vita militare. Fu offerto alla guarnigione dalle imprese responsabili della costruzione dei forti, delle opere e delle batterie intorno a Verdun. Nel 1890, la popolazione militare era pari a quella civile. Molte caserme segnano ancora il paesaggio di Verdun.
