Quest'area unica di oltre 9000 ettari è un campo di tiro militare. Poco soggetta agli sconvolgimenti del paesaggio agricolo e urbano, è un luogo in cui permangono le originarie aree paludose della brughiera. Di conseguenza, è possibile osservare una fauna e una flora originali delle Landes. Si possono ascoltare e vedere uccelli provenienti da ambienti aperti sia umidi che secchi, come allodole, chiurli, spioncelli e gorgheggi. Ma la più spettacolare di tutte è la gru grigia, che approfitta della tranquillità del sito per dormire nelle fredde notti invernali da novembre a marzo
