Montréal du Gers è il più antico villaggio medievale - una bastide - del Gers. È anche un luogo visitato da numerosi pellegrini. Il nome della città, Montréal (o "Montroyal"), ricorda le origini reali di questa bastide fondata nel 1255 da Alphonse de Poitiers. Costruita su una roccia su un promontorio che domina la piccola valle dell'Auzoue, doveva svolgere un ruolo strategico tra i domini francesi e inglesi ai tempi della guerra dei Cent'anni. Dal suo passato, Montréal-du-Gers conserva un ricco patrimonio con abitazioni fortificate, una porta a ogiva, case a graticcio, una piazza circondata da archi in pietra massiccia, strade strette.
