Secondo la leggenda, Saint-Hilaire passò da Availles per visitare i suoi genitori. Stanco, si fermò vicino alla chiesa, dove sollevò una grande pietra sotto la quale sgorgò una sorgente che da allora non si è mai prosciugata. La modesta chiesa parrocchiale, la cui cura dipendeva da Saint-Jouin-de-Marnes, è menzionata già nel XII secolo. Di questo periodo rimangono pochi resti.
