Eretto in memoria dei neocastellani morti durante la Grande Guerra, il monumento ai caduti al centro di Place des Cordeliers fu inaugurato il 25 aprile 1925. Originariamente erano elencati i nomi di 149 uomini caduti durante la guerra. Altri nomi sono stati aggiunti in seguito, in particolare quelli dei neocastellani caduti durante la Seconda guerra mondiale
Questo monumento è opera di Emile Just Bachelet: nato a Nancy, l'artista, che aveva studiato Belle Arti a Parigi e a Nancy, fu dichiarato inabile al servizio attivo durante la guerra. Viene mobilitato come infermiere in un ospedale militare a Troyes e poi a Lure, dove disegna e realizza busti di soldati feriti. A lui si devono molti monumenti ai caduti eretti in Lorena, tra cui quelli di Badonviller, Bois-le-Prêtre, Epinal, Pont-à-Mousson, Remiremont, Toul e Vézelise.
