La frazione di Waldeck, parte del comune di Eguelshardt, si trova ai piedi delle rovine dell'omonimo castello. La tenuta di Waldeck è menzionata già nel 960, ma non ancora il suo castello, costruito verso la fine del XIII secolo. Nel corso della sua storia divenne possesso di diverse signorie.
Nel 1605 furono eretti dei cippi nella regione per segnare il nuovo confine tra il Ducato di Lorena e la Contea di Hanau. Alcuni di essi sono ancora visibili oggi, non lontano dalla frazione di Waldeck, ai margini della strada forestale di Hanau.
