Questa cortina muraria, monumento storico, collegava l'abbazia di Saint Winoc al resto della città , anche per garantire la sicurezza dei monaci.
L'alta muraglia, rinforzata da tre torri , fu rinforzata e riempita di terra durante il regno dell'imperatore Carlo V , adattata ai cannoni antiaerei e poi completata nel XVII secolo da Vauban con la mezzaluna dei Gesuiti.
