Costruito nel XV secolo e rinforzato nel XVIII secolo, il Gros Mur sostiene il terrazzo su cui poggiano la chiesa e il sagrato. Assicura sia una funzione difensiva (mura) sia una funzione urbanistica (sostegno). Rimangono alcuni segmenti di muro dell'arenaria di circa 350 metri eretta nel XIV secolo. Otto delle nove porte fortificate che servivano da pedaggio sono state distrutte durante le guerre di religione. Rimane solo la porta di Lione, sotto il Gros Mur.
