Le rocce di Solutré, di Vergisson e il Monte di Pouilly sono inclinate verso est, a causa dell'inclinazione dell'altopiano calcareo durante il sollevamento alpino. Originariamente coperte da foreste, le loro cime sono oggi ricoperte da un ambiente specifico chiamato praterie calcaree, vaste distese di prati bassi che ricoprono un suolo povero e poco profondo. Questi spazi ospitano una grande diversità biologica, caratterizzata dalla presenza di specie rare e di associazioni vegetali notevoli, e riconosciuta a livello europeo grazie alla loro classificazione nella rete Natura 2000.
