Bideford è una storica città portuale situata all'estuario del fiume Torridge nel nord del Devon, nel sud-ovest dell'Inghilterra. È la principale città del distretto governativo locale di Torridge.
Nei registri antichi, Bideford è registrata come Bedeford, Byddyfrod, Bedyford, Bydeford, Bytheford e Biddeford. L'etimologia del nome significa "presso il guado", e i registri mostrano che prima che ci fosse un ponte, c'era un guado a Bideford, dove il fiume Torridge è estuarino, e a bassa marea è possibile, ma non consigliabile, attraversare il fiume attraversando a piedi.
