Knaresborough è una città di mercato e una località termale, oltre a essere una parrocchia civile nel distretto di Harrogate, North Yorkshire, Inghilterra, sul fiume Nidd, a 3 miglia a est di Harrogate.
Knaresborough è menzionata nel Domesday Book del 1086 come Chenaresburg, che significa "fortezza di Cenheard", nel wapentake di Burghshire, rinominato Claro Wapentake nel XII secolo. Il Castello di Knaresborough è normanno; intorno al 1100, la città iniziò a espandersi. Forniva un mercato e attirava i commercianti per servire il castello. La chiesa parrocchiale, St John's, fu istituita circa in questo periodo. Il primo Lord di Knaresborough identificato è intorno al 1115, quando Serlo de Burgh deteneva l'Onore di Knaresborough dal Re.
