The castle of Nafpaktos is built on a rock called flysch. Flysch is a typical rock which is created during a period of fast erosion, when surrounded areas are uplifted and eroded, and where the eroded material is deposited in the sea. You can recognize the flysch from its altering bands of sandstone and clay layers (mudstone).
