Il Colosseo, conosciuto anche come l'Anfiteatro Flavio, costruito nel I secolo d.C. a Roma, era il più grande anfiteatro dell'Impero Romano.
Il Colosseo fu costruito dagli imperatori Flavi. I lavori iniziarono sotto il regno di Vespasiano nel 72 e furono finanziati con il bottino della conquista di Gerusalemme nel 70. Dopo il completamento nel 80, fu inaugurato da Tito. I giochi di apertura durarono 100 giorni. Il poeta Marciale dedicò una raccolta di 33 epigrammi ad esso. Il successore di Tito, Domiziano, aggiunse un ulteriore piano, oltre a una serie di corridoi e stanze sotto l'arena, che ora sono visibili.
