È noto per il santuario fondatovi da Francesco d'Assisi, per essere il paese natale di Lucio Battisti e di Attilio Piccioni, e per la produzione della porchetta.
Poggio Bustone sorge sul fianco del Monte Rosato, un colle che si erge sul bordo nord-orientale della Piana Reatina , e alle falde occidentali del massiccio del Monte Terminillo, a circa 350 metri di altezza rispetto al fondo valle.
