Numerose sono le contrade sparse nel comune. Il centro storico è situato in una posizione elevata rispetto al corso del torrente Titerno, alle pendici dei monti Monaco di Gioia e Acero e si è sviluppato intorno al castello medievale.
Il territorio presenta un'altimetria molto variabile, passano dai 1332 m s.l.m. del Monte Monaco di Gioia ai circa 60/70 m s.l.m. della pianura di Marafi e Macchia.
