Il comune è situato all'imbocco della val Nure; la porzione più settentrionale del suo territorio, al confine con il comune di Podenzano e nei pressi del corso del torrente Nure, si trova nelle ultime propaggini della pianura Padana, mentre, procedendo verso sud, compaiono i primi declivi dell'Appennino ligure, con un paesaggio che assume progressivamente caratteristiche collinari e alto-collinari. Il territorio comunale fa parte della zona DOC per la produzione dei vini dei colli piacentini.
