Castel San Pietro Terme è un comune situato lungo la storica via Emilia , a circa 20 chilometri ad est di Bologna; il capoluogo è lambito dal torrente Sillaro, che incomincia da qui il suo percorso in pianura e determina il confine tra Emilia e Romagna.
Essendo ai piedi dell'appennino tosco-emiliano, il territorio del comune si presenta in parte pianeggiante, in parte collinare e caratterizzato da vaste aree boschive, calanchi e valli.
