Via di Mezzo è una piazza centrale del centro storico di Barga.
Nel 1870 la famiglia Capretz aprì un caffè sotto la loggia cinquecentesca dei mercanti davanti al municipio. In quel periodo il caffè divenne il luogo di incontro dell'aristocrazia e della vita intellettuale di Barga.
L'attuale Cafè Capretz vi accoglie non solo nei suoi ampi spazi interni ed esterni, ma anche nel suo terrazzino che offre una vista unica su Barga. Sulla terrazza un'epigrafe è dettata dal poeta Giovanni Pascoli.
