La chiesa fu edificata nel 1735 e aggiunta al collegio di S. Maria all'Olivella. Lei è dedicato a San Gioacchino, padre della Vergine Maria.
La facciata è costituita da un unico corpo, seppur diviso da lesene, e da un timpano curvilineo sotto il quale si trova un medaglione in stucco raffigurante San Gioacchino.
L'interno è un grande ambiente rettangolare sul quale si aprono quattro cappelle semicircolari . L'intera chiesa è avvolta in un manto bianco con eleganti stucchi che formano stelle filanti e volti di angeli. Nel vestibolo si trova un pregevole rilievo in stucco con la "Fuga in Egitto" ; due colonne sostengono il coro e introducono alla navata: sulla parete destra sono l' Altare del Rosario e l' Altare dell'Immacolata con due tele settecentesche attribuite a Filippo Randazzo; sulla parete sinistra è la Cappella dell'Arcangelo Raffaele, con una tela del 1750 dipinta da Pietro Martorana.
