Il Parco è, dopo l'Oude Plantage, il parco più antico di Rotterdam, situato a ovest del Centro. Il Parco si trova tra il Nieuwe Maas, il Parkhaven, il Westzeedijk e il Scheepvaartkwartier.
L'area su cui ora si trova il Parco è stata segretamente acquistata nel 1851 dal comune di Rotterdam con l'intenzione di qui stabilire un macello. Dopo le obiezioni di Delfshaven al riguardo e su richiesta del consiglio, il comune di Rotterdam decise nel 1852 di creare qui una "passeggiata pubblica".
