Si trova lungo la strada principale tra Leeuwarden e Dokkum. Nel 2021 il villaggio contava 620 abitanti. Sotto il villaggio rientra anche il borgo di Zevenhuizen. Oudkerk è il villaggio più a nord della regione di Trijnwouden. Si trova su terreno sabbioso, nella parte più antica della Frisia. Il canale Oudkerkstervaart corre in direzione nord-ovest verso Bartlehiem. A sud-ovest del villaggio si trova il lago Oudkerkermeer. Poco a ovest di esso si trova il mulino De Oudkerkermolen, un mulino di polder risalente al 1864. Vicino a Oudkerk si trova la stins De Klinze.
