La Cittadella a 's-Hertogenbosch è un ex forte. Questo forte fu costruito tra il 1637 e il 1645.
Un soprannome della Cittadella è La Papenbril. Questo è dovuto al fatto che deve sorvegliare i cattolici boschiani.
Nel luogo dove fu costruita la Cittadella, nel XIV e XV secolo c'erano case, così come la Porta di Orthen che si trovava sul Bastione di Orthenpoort. Questa porta risale al periodo tra il 1315 e il 1350. La costruzione di questa porta rese obsoleta la Porta di Bruxelles.
La cittadella era un forte con cinque punte nel bastione. La costruzione del forte iniziò poco dopo la conquista della città nel 1629.
