Fort Spion è un forte che faceva parte della Nuova Linea d'Acqua Olandese. Questa linea di difesa è stata costruita tra il 1815 e il 1885 e ha funzionato - con le necessarie modifiche - fino al 1940 come una delle principali linee di difesa del nostro paese. La Nuova Linea d'Acqua Olandese si trovava tra il Mare del Nord e la Biesbosch e comprendeva 68 opere difensive, centinaia di opere in cemento e una vasta area di allagamento. Quest'area di allagamento, che poteva essere inondata, avrebbe dovuto fermare le truppe nemiche. Prima dell'inizio della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, il forte fu rinforzato con una pesante casamatta in cemento. Questa serviva a chiudere la strada tra Loosdrecht e Loenen. Oggi Fort Spion è stato trasformato in un piccolo e semplice campeggio.
